Study Group Leaders Wanted!

Want teaching experience? BioEHS is currently looking for new study group leaders to lead BioEHS Study Groups.

We are especially looking for students who would be able to teach Bio 1A, EE 100, Math 1A, Math 1B, Math 53, Math 54, Phys 8A, Phys 8B, and Chem 3A. But we are open to having study groups for other classes too if you have ideas.

Why might you want to be a study group leader?

  • You will receive 2 units of course credit, this is perfect if you need a little extra push to get your schedule up to the required number of units.
  • You will become an expert at the subject you are teaching! After putting in the effort to teach a subject to others, you will find that your own understanding of the material has become much more rigorous and thorough.
  • You will become a celebrity on campus. Well... perhaps not a celebrity, but it is gratifying when you run into students around campus who recognize you because they were in your study group or attended your midterm reviews.
  • You will be providing a valuable resource to Berkeley undergraduates working to get through the difficult lower division classes.
  • You will get to add a nice little blurb about teaching a weekly study group on your resume.

What are the time commitments? You will be expected to teach a weekly 1.5 hour study group (usually with a partner). Preparation for the study group (making a worksheet, preparing a lesson plan, etc.) typically students between 1-2 hours per week.

If you are interested in teaching a study group this semester, send an email to bioehs.academic@gmail.com with the class (or classes) that you feel qualified to teach by this Saturday, January 21st. Please also include a few sentences regarding why you feel you are qualified to be a study group leader for that particular class and why you would like to lead a study group. We will hold interviews for interested students during the week of January 23-27.

New to teaching? Don't worry! We will have at least one (maybe more) training session(s) for new study group leaders to give them a crash course on teaching college students.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email Daniel Price at bioehs.academic@gmail.com
